:: When Accident Happens... ::

Assalamualaikum WBT..

Please drive carefully during this Hari Raya. But if any bad thing which I mean accident happens to any of you (nauzubillahhiminzalik), this might be help...

The most important thing to do when you or someone you might know are involved in an accident is to always maintain your composure. By doing so, try to recall these steps that might just help:

•    Immediately contact 999 or PLUS Helpline at 1800-88-0000 for further assistance

•    If there are no injuries, move the vehicle from the traffic flow to a safer place, if possible

•    State the name and address of the drivers involve

•    State the name and address of the witnesses if there are any

•    Do a rough sketch on the accident and the location of the vehicle
detailing the incident before and after the accident (Pictures of the accident can also be included as it might be useful)

•    Exchange information on the name of the insurance company

•    Avoid discussing who caused the accident as this could aggravate the situation

•    If your vehicle needs to be towed, make sure the vehicle is send to the prescribed workshop. Keep a close contact with the insurance company or the “hotline” number of the insurance company

•    Lodge a police report immediately after the accident

•    Also make a report to your insurance company although it is not your intention to make any claims. This is because the third party involved in the accident might try to make a claim from your insurance and this could cause you to lose your NCD

•    Fill in the claim form and also key in the necessary details. If there are any hesitations, get advice from your insurance company immediately

If your vehicle is damaged, you can make your own claim or a third party claim. For your own claim, contact your insurance company as soon as possible to clear any doubts. If your insurance company suggest or wants you to send your vehicle to the approved panel, act as advised as the insurance company has the right to decline any claims done if you decide to send your vehicle elsewhere. The insurance company will send an accident evaluator to assess the accumulated amount that should be reimbursed before any repairing works could be done.

Your insurance company should cover any loss or damage to your vehicle due to any mishaps involving fire, theft or accidents; and/or body injuries, death of a third party, damage or loss to the third party’s property.
